The Ranch

A family ranch in the hills above Carpinteria.

One hundred and twenty acres. Three creeks. Avocado, coffee, citrus, and oak, with the Pacific eight minutes down Highway 150. The ranch borders Los Padres National Forest on its Northern edge and looks out to the Channel Islands from the Hilltop Hideaway and upper groves.

It started as a stagecoach stop in 1894. Then a working farm. For most of the last hundred years, a quiet place to gather. The houses, the meadow, the pavilion, the piazza are kept ready so that the day arrives without friction, and the hours around it stay quiet. A place to be with your family before the wedding, and after.

The drive in

You turn off the highway, and everything gets quieter.

Past the gate the lane narrows under eucalyptus and the highway falls away behind you. By the time the houses come into view, the day has already slowed to the pace of the ranch.

Chapter 02. The Meadow

Where most couples say their vows.

The Meadow is shaded by oaks older than the property and when the guests settle in, Rincon Creek is the only sound. With a short walk or shuttle the valley opens to views of the Pavilion, the Piazza, and mountains of Los Padres.

Some couples write their own version of this. Vows are also said at the grand fireplace in the Pavilion or the stone stairs of the Piazza. The ceremony goes where your vision goes.

The hour between

After the vows, there's no rush.

The string lights start to come on as the sun drops behind the ridge. The hills go gold, then rose, then blue. Drinks pass under the oaks. The grand fireplace gets going for anyone who wants to settle in.

Chapter 04. The Piazza after dark

Where the night really begins.

The candles are lit, the toasts are given, the music finds its rhythm, and the dance floor fills with everyone you love. The Piazza holds it all - string lights overhead, a fire pit to the side for slower conversations, heaters when the air turns cool.

The Spaces

Three spaces, one ranch.

One vision, one venue. Three spaces, arranged around the day you have dreamed of. The Meadow and the Piazza staircase are where most ceremonies happen. The Pavilion can hold cocktail hour, and dinner for smaller weddings. The Piazza opens up for larger nights.

The Meadow

A grass clearing alongside the creek, shaded by old oaks.

Since 1894

Built. Rebuilt. Still here.

The ranch has lived a few lives. A stagecoach stop in the 1890s. A working farm through most of the last century. A total loss in the Thomas Fire of 2017 the family rebuilt it with the vision of a private sanctuary.

1894

Originally a stagecoach stop on the Casitas Pass road.

Early 1900s

Roosevelt, Hoover, and a stretch of Hollywood guests pass through. A few of the photos are still on the wall.

Dec 2017

The Thomas Fire reaches Stanley Park Road. Every structure on the property is lost.

2018–

The family begins rebuilding. One space, one season at a time.

Today

Still a working avocado and citrus farm. Usually a wedding here on the weekends.
